St. Dorothy's Rest, A Place to Experience the Sacred

An Episcopal Camp & Retreat Center of the Diocese of California

Founded in 1901, St. Dorothy's Rest is the oldest, continuously-operating summer camp in California. Through our rich camp programs, we serve over 400 youth. Our tradition has and continues to be to never turn a child away for inability to pay.

Through the support of donors, foundations, and grants, St. Dorothy's Rest partners with bay area hospitals and local non-profits to offer Health Camps, a free camp for kids with cancer and organ transplants.

St. Dorothy's Rest retreat ministry welcomes 75 diverse groups and 2000 guests a year. Seven houses serve as gathering places for group and individual retreats.

St. Dorothy's Rest is committed to being a place where people come, gather, rest, and reflect and leave renewed.

dividing line

St. Dorothy's Rest was founded in 1901 by the Rev. & Mrs. James O. Lincoln as the first free summer camp in California. The Lincolns were active in the Episcopal Church and were adherents of the Arts & Crafts movement, with its emphasis on a simple and artistic life in harmony with nature.

The influence of the Lincolns remains strong at St. Dorothy's over a century later. We are the oldest continuously operating summer camp in California. During non-summer months we host retreats and conferences for churches, non-profit organizations, schools, and those on a spiritual path.
